About The Conference
The Trans Indian Ocean Sumatran Tsunami and following natural disasters in Indonesia expressed the global vulnerability and urgent need for early warning. The disasters changed practises on how to proceed forward with hazard risk reduction, preparedness and development.
With support from other countries, Indonesia is launching the Indonesian Tsunami Early Wrning System (Ina-TEWS) in order to protect both communities and development in the coastal regions.
This International conference brings together people commited to understand better our environment and how to deal with related disasters, and to consolidate collaboration and networks on early warning development in the region.
Theme, Topics and Invited Speakers
The theme “Towards Safer Coastal Communities” reflects great concern to the security of coastal communities.
This International Conference on Tsunami Warning (ICTW) translate the theme by focusing on (but not limited to):
* Seismic Monitoring
* Sea-Level Monitoring
* Database, Modelling and Simulation
* Information, Communication and Warning Dissemination
* Crustal Deformation Monitoring
* Community Preparedness and Mitigation
Special presentations will be given by invited speakers such as Hiroo Kanamori of Caltech Pasadena (Seismic Monitoring), Eddie Bernard of NOAA (Sea-level Monitoring), Fumihiko Imamura* of Tohoku University (database, Modelling and Simulation), Stefan Dech of DLR (Information, Communication and Warning Dissemination), Yehuda Bock of UCSD (Crustal Deformation Monitoring) and Jan Sopaheluwakan of LIPI (Community Preparedness and Mitigation).

09 June 2008: Dead-line for abstract submission
11 July 2008: Notification of acceptance
10 October 2008: Dead-line for full-paper submission
Other Related Events
The ICTW offers to participate at the official launch of the Ina-TEWS by the President of Indonesia and to join the Asian Conference on Disaster Reduction (ACDR) 2008 and an exhibition at the same time and place.
